Some dreams are worth pursuing in tinsel town. Jaikrishna’s is a case point.
The 50-year-old turns debutant director with the Vijay Sethupathi-Kreshna-starrer Vanmam that is expected to hit theatres on November 21.
The Nagercoil native has pursued his dream of becoming a filmmaker ever since he arrived in Chennai in the mid 80s. He has served as an assistant director, under some big banners like Rajkamal Films International and under directors like R.K. Selvamani.
“I never gave up on my dream and my film was okayed for production by Nemichand Jhabak and V. Hitesh Jhabak, nearly three years ago,” says Jaikrishna.
“My first success was getting on board actors Vijay Sethupathi and Kreshna. Not only did both of them like the story a lot, they also felt the casting was appropriate,” he says.
Though he is a little anxious ahead of the release of his film, Jaikrishna says he is confident he will be able to make his mark in the industry.
“Over the years, I have had several scripts I felt would have been apt for the trends then. But I had to chuck all those stories when I could not find a producer. I worked on this ( Vanmam ) story afresh to suit today’s audiences’ tastes,” he says.
Jaikrishna also has an inkling of what his next project will be. “It will be a slightly high-budget film when compared to Vanmam ,” he says. “But it all depends on how well this movie does at the box office.” He is waiting for his Friday.
