Actor Vishal Krishna decided to walk the talk against piracy recently. He made sure two local TV channels in Karaikudi which were reportedly playing new Tamil releases — ‘Vadacurry’ and ‘Un Samayal Arayil’ — were raided by the police.

Browsing TV channels in his hotel room after shooting for director Hari’s ‘Poojai’ in Karaikudi, actor Vishal said he came across two local channels playing the new films.

“I was surprised to find two recent releases being aired on local channels. I decided to file a police complaint, which resulted in raids on the offices of the local channels. Four persons were arrested,” he said. The actor said that it was time the film industry collectively fought against piracy and urged his fellow actors also to do the same.

“New releases are played illegally on buses, local television channels and are distributed through pirated DVDs and VCDs. If everyone does their bit, it will make a huge difference,” he said.

The video of the actor, where he appears to be asking questions to an employee of the local television channel, went viral on social media sites on Saturday.

The finalists of season nine of ‘Maanada Mayilada’, a dance reality show, will get to showcase their talents on Singapore soil soon.

A team of 70 artistes is set to enthral audiences abroad at the grand finale of the talent hunt show that is aired on Kalaignar TV.

This season will see six pairs of semifinalists — Sathish-Ankita, Faiz-Nikitha, Prabhu-Yamini, Prakash-Priya, Sitogan-Smitha and Soorya-Ramya — fight it out for the title on August 8.

When asked why they chose foreign soil for the finals, ace film choreographer and the show’s director Kala said the finals of five seasons were held in Chennai.

“We decided to shift the finals to other countries due to popular demand from global audiences. We could not get the right venue to accommodate over 10,000 guests in Chennai.”

The show has had increasing viewership in other countries and some even travelled from abroad to watch the shooting of the event. Several lakhs voted from countries such as Malaysia and France.

Film celebrities, including Jayaram, Vivek, Vimal, ‘Mirchi’ Shiva and Kovai Sarala, besides the show’s two judges — actors Kushboo Sundar and Namitha — will embark on the trip to entertain Singaporeans.

But, the finals of the show’s next season will be hosted in Tamil Nadu, most probably in Coimbatore, said Ms. Kala.
