I am 22. The hair on my arms is very dark. Suggest remedies other than laser treatment.Chaitanya

Hair removal by waxing is the best option for hair on the arms. Waxing also reduces hair growth gradually, as it removes hair by the roots. Have it done at a beauty salon, where the sugar and lemon mixture is usually used. Or you can try an epilator. In this method, a small gadget is used and it can be done at home. It is useful for the arms and legs, but should not be used for facial hair. The best results can be achieved before the hair has grown long. There may be some pain initially, as in waxing. One should read the directions carefully, before using it.

After washing the face, wipe with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Mix multani mitti with rose water into a paste and apply on the face, avoiding the lips and area around the eyes. Wash off when dry. Carry wet tissues and use them during the day to wipe the face, remove oiliness and refresh the face.

My two-year-old daughter has hair on her body. How to get rid of it?Reema

Many infants have soft, downy hair on the face and body, which gradually disappears, as they grow older. The skin of babies and children is delicate and tender. However, you can mix whole wheat flour and milk into a stiff dough, like the dough for making chapatis. Hold the dough in your hand and rub it gently on the child’s skin daily, the way you would use a sponge or loofah. It should not be a paste and NOT applied on the skin. Flour and milk make soft dough, which can be used on the tender skin of children. Rubbing the dough daily on the skin is said to gradually lessen hair growth.

I have very dark lips.Sai Kumar

The skin of the lips is thin and delicate. However, after washing the face, when the lips are wet, you can rub them gently with a soft towel. This helps to remove dead skin. Then apply cream of milk and leave on for an hour. Add a few drops of lemon juice to the cream of milk before application. Apply pure almond oil daily on the lips at night and leave on overnight. You can also look for a lip balm with sunscreen. Or apply a few drops of sunscreen on the lips before going out in the sun. Avoid smoking, as it can lead to dark lips.

Suggest a remedy for excessive sweating.Beena

You should consult a doctor for excessive sweating. Your doctor may also suggest thyroid function tests. For excessive perspiration, Ayurveda offers dietary suggestions. Sip ‘nimbu paani.’ Sip ginger tea before and after your meals. Chop fresh ginger root finely and mix with a pinch of salt. Chew a little of this before your meal. Sipping warm water with your meal may also help. Light diet with less spices is advised. Eat smaller meals.

I have rough and frizzy hair.Preethi

Mix some water with creamy hair conditioner and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the hair. Then comb the hair, so that it spreads evenly through the hair. Or, you can take two drops of a light vegetable oil, like sunflower oil. Put a little on your palms and rub the palms lightly together, so that the oil spreads over both palms. Smooth the palms over the hair. Or, take the ends of the hair in your palms and scrunch them. This works better on dry hair. Leave the oil on. Have a deep conditioning treatment once a week, before shampoo. Mix together one egg, one tablespoon castor oil, the juice of a lemon and one teaspoon pure glycerine or honey. Apply on the hair, wear a plastic shower cap and keep on for an hour. After shampoo, wrap a towel around the head and let it soak up water. Avoid rubbing.
