Model-turned-actor Ashrita Shetty talks about her first film Udhayam NH4
Ashrita Shetty’s story is the stuff that aspiring actors’ dreams are made of. Her modelling stint was followed by several film offers. “I couldn’t initially believe that these directors actually wanted to sign me,” says Ashrita. While she took time to say ‘yes’, Ashrita realised she had actually missed doing a film with well-known actor Mahesh Babu.
This student of finance, living in Mumbai, didn’t really know what to expect when Vetrimaaran approached her to act in Udhayam NH 4, ‘Though I am a South Indian (Kannadiga), I didn’t know much about Tamil cinema.” But once she knew that Udhayam NH 4 was written by Vetrimaaran, a National award winner, and will be directed by his former associate Manimaran, she was convinced that she wanted to do it.
What is her initial assessment of working in the film industry? “I feel women actors are respected here a lot more. Everything is properly planned and executed. The seamless way of working helps me perform.”
Being a Kannadiga, does she have plans to do Kannada films? “No, I would like to do films in Tamil and Telugu,” she signs off.
