Days after hundreds of wrapper bands used in currency bundles were found discarded in Ponmalai, Tiruchi district, the Chief Electoral Officer has sought a report from the Tiruchi Collector on the incident.

“We received information that several wrapper bands were found scattered in Ponmalai. We have asked the Tiruchi District Collector about the incident,” Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said.

The wrapper bands from various banks were found scattered at a residential area for railway employees in Ponmalai a few days ago.

The Election Commission is closely monitoring the movement of currencies to check the illegal practice of using money to influence the outcome of election.
