Music, they say, brings together people. It certainly brought together city musicians on World Music Day — at the launch of Big Doo Paa Doo that seeks to provide a platform for independent music.
Madhan Karky, known for his lyric and dialogue-writing skills, will don a new role — that of an RJ — for this special Saturday show on 92.7 BIG FM. He will talk on, and present, independent music by city bands and music composers.
Something that he’s already doing through his web-based platform called Doopaadoo, which was launched a couple of months ago. “The show will give these songs a wider reach,” says Karky, “Apart from discussing the song, I will also be going in-depth into the band/composer and their other musical works.”
The line-up seems interesting: there’s music composer Santhosh Narayanan who has done his first independent track on Tamil Nadu, singer-rapper Blaaze’s Rap Bhakti Mala and a Ramzan special song on Allah by Bombay Jayashri, Rajiv Menon and Karthik.
Some of them are already on the site, but playing them on a radio station, Karky hopes, will help them reach an audience who usually do not get to hear a lot of independent music.
Going with the theme of the evening, members of the band Kurangan presented a couple of their independent efforts. A host of singers and composers were also present, to ensure that the evening was a true celebration of music.
