Over 22,000 students in the city will appear for the CBSE class X and XII board examinations which will begin with the Tamil and English papers respectively, on Saturday.
According to the CBSE regional office, as many as 10,775 students will be taking up the class XII examination in Tamil Nadu. In class X, 23,488 out of 28,561 students will write the Board-based examination. This constitutes almost 82 per cent.
Option available for class X studentsCBSE gives students the option of choosing between Board-based and school-based examinations in class X, the difference being the paper correction is carried out by the Board in the case of the former.
In Chennai, 11,293 students, or close to 75.6 per cent of the 14,921 students, are taking up the Board-based examination in class X. A total of 7,366 students will appear for the class XII examinations in the city.
Priya S., whose son has chosen to write the class X Board-based examination, said the school had given sufficient number of revision examinations.
“The introduction of grading and Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system has reduced the burden on students considerably,” she said, adding they opted for the Board-based examination only for the exposure. He will write the Tamil paper on Saturday.
The Summative Assessment-II paper which the students are writing will carry 30 per cent weightage in the overall marking scheme for class X.
V. Suma Padmanabhan, principal, Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School, said she held a session with students and advised them to take sufficient rest. “Students tend to do a lot of last-minute studying,” she said.
Sri Vinayak Ram, a class XII student and an engineering aspirant, is happy the examination is beginning with the English paper.
“Our school has conducted sufficient number of revisions and I am quite thorough. I take breaks between my study sessions, and our teachers have advised us to get enough sleep,” he said, adding he found physics the toughest subject.
