CBI books case against IRS officer, husband for disproportionate assets

Charge of amassing wealth to the tune of ₹1.10 crore

The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked a case against an Indian Revenue Service officer and her husband, an MLA in Andhra Pradesh, for amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

T.H. Vijaya Lakshmi is working as the Commissioner of Income Tax, Audit-II, in Chennai. Her husband Audimulapur Suresh alias A. Suresh was an Indian Railway Accounts Service officer. After quitting the government job, he joined politics and has been an MLA since 2009.

The CBI’s case was that the couple had accumulated assets and pecuniary advantage to the tune of ₹5.95 crore between 2010-2016 against an income of ₹4.84 crore earned during the period. They amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of ₹1.10 crore. Hence, they were booked under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
