At least 5,000 people visited the Vadapalani Metro Rail station on Sunday as ‘Metronival,’ a carnival organised by the Chennai Metro Rail, saw a host of activities.

This is an increase from the daily average of about 2,000 commuters to the station.

Children and adults painted their idea of Chennai Metro Rail as part of the event. Sri Madhumitha, a class VIII student, said, “I have travelled by the Metro quite a few times and loved it. So, when I heard about the painting competition, I just wanted to give it a try.”

Drawing contest

This is the second and last day of the carnival at the station; there was a drawing competition for children on Saturday too.

Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) said the event was organised to persuade more commuters to take to the Metro. “When we saw huge crowds coming in for the first carnival last weekend, we decided we should have one more before the summer ends,” they said. There was a tattoo stall and various restaurants had set up food stalls.

CMRL came up with the carnival here after Bengaluru Metro Rail — Namma Metro — hosted a similar event recently.
