Pasupathy Pandian of Uthiramerur, a student who had written the class XII examination held this year, secured the first place in the aptitude test conducted as part of the The Hindu Education Plus Career Counselling programme here on Friday.

While a computer was presented to the winner, a consolation prize of books was awarded to Vedagiri, a physically challenged student of Chengalpattu.

The one-day programme intended at educating students of classes IX and XII about the higher education opportunities available to them was held at SMG Dhanalakshmi Mahal.

The programme was inaugurated by the chancellor of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya, Enathur.

Welcoming the gathering, senior regional manager, The Hindu, Puduchery, V.R. Saravana Coumar, said, “This event was specifically organised to educate the students and guide their parents about various higher education courses and careers they could opt for.”

While pre-counselling guidance was presented by leading educational consultant, Jayaprakash Gandhi, a motivation lecture was given by the head of department, school of education, SCVMV.

Stalls were also put up at the venue by the title sponsor SCVMV, associate sponsors, Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman College of Engineering, Tiruvannamali District, Aksheyaa College of Engineering, Kancheepuram district, and the venue sponsor, Adhiparasakthi Engineering College, Kancheepuram district. Representatives of the title sponsor, associate sponsor, venue sponsor and bank sponsor (India Bank) participated in the event.

Psychometric tests, sponsored by BODHI, for evaluating the students’ aptitude, were also conducted as part of the programme.
