“Candidates didn't breach poll expenditure ceiling”

The ceiling of Rs.16 lakh for election expenditure was not exceeded by winners and those who finished second and third slots in the Assembly elections.

According to the details of election expenditure hosted on the website of the State Elections Department, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who won from Srirangam, incurred an expenditure of about Rs.9.5 lakh.

Former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who was elected from Tiruvarur, spent Rs.4.48 lakh.

The details of expenditure of other prominent winners are: around Rs.3.33 lakh (former Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin – Kolathur constituency); Rs.7.97 lakh (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam president Vijayakant - Rishivandiyam); and Rs.8.48 lakh (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader O. Paneerselvam - Bodinayakanur).

Thangkabalu

Among those who lost, Saidai S. Duraisamy who finished second in Kolathur incurred an expenditure of about Rs.6.12 lakh and K. V. Thangkabalu, who was defeated in the Mylapore constituency, spent approximately Rs.4.05 lakh.
