Members of the Indian Medical Association and Tamil Nadu Medical Council, who met Health Minister V.S. Vijay recently, have called for scrutiny into “transfer postings” made between April 13 and May 13.
According to the members, around 200 persons were transferred during the period and there were alleged irregularities in their transfer.
“We have learnt that some doctors, who were posted in a particular health institution in the morning, had their posting changed to their place of choice by afternoon,” said IMA president-elect K. Prakasam.
The doctors also sought quashing of the order issued by the previous government permitting Siddha practitioners to administer anaesthesia, contending that Siddha doctors do not have the training or expertise required. The Council members suggested that the K.K. Nagar Peripheral Hospital, which is proposed to be developed as a centre for orthopaedics, should be attached to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital to help improve the Orthopaedics Department in that hospital.
The members sought the Minister's intervention in filling three posts that had been lying vacant in the council for several years.
“The government must nominate doctors to the three posts in the council. Of this, one post should be filled by the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. The post was created when the Medical Education Department was under the University of Madras. But, even after the Medical University was formed, the post has not been transferred. The transfer of the post has to be approved by the Assembly,” Mr. Prakasam said.
