C. Jacob, former teacher of mathematics at Madras Christian College High School, died in the United States on April 23. He was 96.

Mr. Jacob taught in the school in the 1950's and 1960's. His students from those days fondly remembered their mathematics teacher, and later, assistant headmaster.

They recollected his kindness, simplicity, his ability to be understanding with the boys; and his grasp of mathematics.

He was a devout member of the Marthoma Church on Harrington Road, Chetpet, which also used to double up as the school chapel for a while.

Mr. Jacob left for the US with his wife several years ago, since his daughters had all moved there after marriage. He used to visit India occasionally. He is survived by his wife and four daughters.
