A day after an MTC bus ran over a motorist on Santhome High Road, another bus rammed a car on Friday.

The incident led to a series of collisions of vehicles on Rajiv Gandhi Salai in Taramani. However, the motorists involved miraculously escaped with minor injuries.

According to M. Vinayagamoorthy, sub inspector of police, Guindy traffic investigation, the accident took place around 8.30 a.m. on the road near the NIFT campus when the speeding MTC bus route number T51 (Thiruvanmiyur to Tambaram) rammed a car while trying to avoid a motorcyclist.

The car, driven by Anna University professor Lokesh (44) of Pillaiyar Koil Main Road in Taramani, was damaged beyond recognition in the accident.

He and his wife Thiruselvi (38), also an Anna University professor, escaped from the wreckage with minor injuries. The couple were heading to work.

Lokesh’s car rammed into the motorcycle of Gyanaprakasam (29) of Thoraipakkam, badly damaging the two-wheeler which hit the rear of a van. The motorcyclist also escaped, suffering bruises, Mr. Vinayagamoorthy added.

As it was rush hour, traffic came to a halt for some time. A traffic police team reached the spot and sent the injured to hospitals nearby. The damaged vehicles were cleared from the spot and traffic was restored within 30 minutes, traffic police sources said.
