In a major revamp to building plan approval in the city, the Chennai Corporation on Friday approved a new system that would pave the way for blacklisting surveyors who fail to adhere to norms.

The Corporation council met at Ripon Buildings after a break of three months, owing to the Lok Sabha elections, and passed 92 resolutions, most of which focussed on expediting development works.

The new online system for building plan approval includes a payment mode through the Chennai Corporation for the licensed surveyor. The process of recommendation of approval, including field verification, will be completed in seven days.

The fee should be paid online at bank counters through a challan downloaded from the Corporation website.

The certificate of building approval will be downloaded by the applicant under the new system, without the need to visit any Corporation regional office.

A recent administrative revamp at the Corporation has already improved the enforcement of rules pertaining to building violations.

The three regional offices, with separate executive engineers for town planning enforcement and town planning approval, have started to have an impact on building violations in the city. Special resolutions, including one thanking Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for improving power generation and distribution in the State, were also passed by the Corporation council.

Another resolution pertained to AIADMK’s victory in the 22 Assembly segments in the city, in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Resolutions on rainwater harvesting structures by June, land for construction of a fire station in Thoraipakkam, extension of deadline for stormwater drain project, reducing pollution in the Athipet dumping yard, a new park near Anna Memorial on Marina beach, and LCD projector for 122 Chennai Schools, were also passed by the council on Friday.
