Brain dead man’s organs harvested

The organs of a 45-year-old man who was declared brain dead at the Government Stanley Hospital were donated, a press release said.

Head injury

A resident of Gummidipoondi, he met with an accident on January 2 and was admitted with head injuries first at Gummidipoondi government hospital. He was later referred to Government Stanley Hospital. He was in the intensive care unit.

Despite treatment, he was declared brain dead on January 4. His family consented to donate his organs.

While the heart was sent to Frontier Lifeline Hospital, the left kidney was used by Government Stanley Hospital and the right kidney went to SIMS Hospital. The liver was sent to KMCH Covai Hospital and the eyes to the Government Ophthalmic Hospital, the press release said.
