Boy drowns, one missing

A two-year-old boy, who was playing outside his house in Kargil Nagar, Tiruvottiyur drowned in an overflowing drain nearby.

Sathangadu police identified the victim as Kishore, son of Kamaraj, a daily wage labourer, who is suspected to have slipped and fallen into the drain around 2 p.m.. Kishore was spotted in the water by neighbours. They rushed him to the Government Stanley Hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead, police sources said.

Sridhar (10) of R.R. Nagar, Kodungaiyur who is suspected to have gone for a swim with friends in the Buckingham Canal adjacent to the Kodungaiyur dumping yard on Sunday afternoon, has gone missing. A four-hour-long search for the boy carried out by a Fire and Rescue Service team proved futile.

The rescue will continue on Monday.
