Booth slips to be distributed today

The District Election Office will distribute booth slips to voters at all polling stations on Sunday.

Addressing micro observers here on Saturday, District Election Officer and Corporation Commissioner D.Karthikeyan said that in the 16 constituencies 75 per cent of the booth slips had been distributed.

On Sunday, the distribution of booths slips would be carried out from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in all the 3,236 polling stations.

Of the 1,509 critical polling stations in the constituencies, micro observers would monitor 340 stations. Over 500 micro observers participated in the training session.

A total of 675 polling stations would be monitored using web cameras by the Election Commission. Video surveillance of 495 polling stations has been planned by the District Election Office.

The micro observers are employees of the Central government and public sector. They would report electoral offence at the polling stations to observers on the day of poll. The micro observers were trained on the methods to be adopted to ensure better surveillance.

The training stressed the need for verifying the photo identity of every voter during elections. Deputy Commissioner (Health) M.Balaji was present.

Tiruvallur district election officials said the voters of Maduravoyal constituency could collect their booth slips in 292 polling booths located across Vanagaram (the telephone number of the VAO is 9444305817), Karambakkam (9003214292), Nolambur (9790814481), Ramapuram (9382884647) and Mogappair West (9444660925).
