The Pulianthope police arrested Saravanan alias ‘Bomb’ Saravanan, an ‘A’ category history-sheeter, who has been absconding since 2016, from a house in Tiruvallur district early on Monday.
According to the police, Saravanan, 41, had over 24 cases against him, including six murder cases and two cases under the Explosives Act.
On Sunday, the police received information that he was hiding in Tiruvallur district. A special team was formed, comprising Tiruvallur law and order inspector M. Ravi, sub-inspectors B. Santhosh Kumar, K. Adharsh and other police personnel.
With the help of a mason, who constructed a house for Saravanan, the police tracked him down to a house in Lakshapuram in Uthukottai, five km from Periyapalayam. “Around 4.30 a.m, we barged into his house and arrested him,” said a police officer.
Enmity with gangster
Police said Saravanan had enmity with Nagendran, a notorious history-sheeter from north Chennai who is in prison now. “Years ago, Saravanan’s brother Thennarasu was allegedly murdered by Nagendran’s gang. From then on, he and Nagendran became rivals,” said a police officer.’
He got his moniker as he used to hurl bombs at his enemies. “He claims that he learnt to make bombs in Andhra Pradesh. We are interrogating him,” the police officer said.
