The body of a 14-year-old school student from Mylapore who went missing on Thursday, was found floating in an irrigation well in Jalladianpettai, Medavakkam on Saturday morning.

Police suspect the boy had come for swim with his friends and drowned.

Pallikaranai police identified the victim as S. Karthik, a class X student at a government school in Royapettah, and a resident of Gandhi Nagar, Mylapore. The teenager’s father, Sankar works with an LPG cylinder supplying agency.

On Thursday, Karthik left for school but did not come back home.

After frantic searches, Sankar lodged a complaint with the Mylapore police who launched a hunt for the teenager.

Around 11.30 a.m. on Saturday, passers-by spotted a body floating in an unused well in Jalladianpettai. They alerted the police and a team from the Pallikaranai station fished the body out with the assistance of a few local residents.

Investigators found a school bag near the well and also found Karthik’s school ID card. His parents were informed. Following this, the body was sent to the government hospital in Chromepet for a post-mortem examination.

Pallikaranai police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
