City-based Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, affiliated to Bharat (Deemed) University, has been permitted through a judgment by the Supreme Court to increase its student intake from this academic year. The college, which was recognised for 100 seats, had approached the court after the Medical Council of India denied it permission to increase the number of seats.

On Thursday, the MCI website had amended the status of the college stating that was permitted for renewal of permission to increase the number of seats from 150 to 250 under section 10(A) of the Medical Council of India Act for the academic year 2015-16.
