Asst. director wanted in rape case

The police are searching for an assistant director of Tamil serials who allegedly sedated a 20-year- old girl with whom he had an affair, and forced her to abort her pregnancy.

20-year old-Vijaya (name changed), a native of Tindivanam moved to Chennai after her schooling. She was staying with her sister and working in a mobile phone shop.

Nearly two years ago, she met Selva Bharati, who works as an assistant director in Tamil soaps directed by Sakthivel. He was residing in Vadapalani. Soon, their friendship developed into a romantic relationship.

Three months ago, Vijaya informed Selva Bharati that she was pregnant and asked him to marry her. He allegedly mixed a pill for abortion in a soft drink and gave it to her. After this, the two also went to a hospital in Virugambakkam and did a dilation and curettage. “She again asked him to marry her but he refused,” said a police source.

Vijaya then consumed poison and was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College hospital. “The hospital authorities informed the Vadapalani police who called in Selva Bharati for enquiry. But he again refused to marry her. The case was forwarded to Maduravoyal all woman police station,” said police .

In her complaint, she alleged that he had mixed sedatives in her cool drinks and had sex with her. “After the Vadapalani police enquiry, Selva Bharati went missing,” said the source. The police have registered a case under sections 328 (sedation), 376 (rape) and 313 (abortion).
