Arrivals at Chennai's new int’l terminal not until December

September 12, 2013 09:19 am | Updated June 02, 2016 11:19 am IST - CHENNAI:

International departures from Chennai airport may shift completely to the new terminal in the first week of October.

Arrival operations, however, would not begin before December as the AAI was grappling with manpower issues, said E.P. Hareendranathan, executive director (technical), Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Mr. Hareendranathan visited the airport on Tuesday and held discussions with the airlines on various issues marring the shifting process.

Nine airlines, including Air Austral, Cathay Pacific, IndiGo, SpcieJet and Gulf Air, have begun operating from the new international departure terminal that was thrown open for use on August 7, five months after it was inaugurated.

“Some of the airlines expressed apprehensions on shifting of in-line baggage scanners without disrupting operations in the old and new international terminals. We have chalked out plans to work this out,” he said.

There is one in-line baggage scanner in the new international terminal that was transported from Srinagar and two of them in the old international terminal now.

He said the shifting process would be completed in the first week of October after which user development fee would be levied at the airport.
