A City Civil Court has ordered the arrest of A.M. Chinnappa, Acting Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, and a parish priest in connection with a suit filed against them for not furnishing statement of account related to a church in Pattabiram.

The suit was filed before the City Civil Court by J. Francis Borgia and S. Santhanam, parishioners of the Church of Our Lady of Health, Pattabiram Military Siding.

They were paying monthly subscription to the church. Hence, the Archbishop and the parish priest K.M. Alwin were jointly liable to furnish statement of account to the parishioners.

The plaintiffs said the funds collected from them were mismanaged. Hence, the church had seen no development. In the suit, they prayed the court to direct the Archbishop and the priest to furnish the audited statement of accounts to them.

The court had directed them to furnish the account from 2006 to 2009.

Alleging that the Archbishop and the priest failed to furnish the accounts, the plaintiffs filed an execution petition seeking to direct the Archbishop to furnish statement of accounts and in default, his arrest might be ordered.

“Direction warrant already served. Document not produced. Hence arrest by December 7,” X Assistant Judge said in his order .
