Anniversary celebration

With a Bharathanatyam recital by Vyjayantimala Bali, the 20th anniversary celebrations of Hamsadhwani got under way here on Sunday.

Inaugurating the celebrations, Senior Managing Director of Kasturi & Sons Ltd and President of The Music Academy N. Murali said that Hamsadhwani has made rapid strides and achieved tremendously in encouraging fine arts. Commending the effort of R. Ramachandran, the founder secretary of the Sabha, Mr. Murali said his innovations such as NRI music festivals and other thematic festivals remain unique. “Hamsadhwani is firmly on its feet now. It has set an example to others by honouring older sabhas,” he said.

Apollo Hospitals Managing Director Preetha Reddy said that sabhas not only propagate fine arts but also support them by patronising various artists. They safeguard the tradition for posterity, she said, expressing hope that the next generation would also continue the workThe Sabha President Ramnath S. Mani, vice-president Rachna Kumar and secretaries Sundar Ramachandran and T.R.Gopalan, were present. A series of music performances and discourses are scheduled from August 18 to August 29 as part of the celebrations.
