Anbumani calls for setting up of ‘Tree Authority’

July 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - CHENNAI:

PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss planted saplings at Iyyapanthangal government high school along with schoolchildren to celebrate Pasumai Thayagam day on Monday. He said that the Tamil Nadu government must set up Tree Authority, empower the State Wetland Authority and Biodiversity Management Committee to safeguard and conserve green areas, lakes, rivers, and preserve biodiversity in the State.

He criticised the Tamil Nadu government for not doing enough to conserve the environment despite the prevalence of existing laws.

“According to Wetlands Conservation and Management Rules 2010, Tamil Nadu should have set up Wetland Authority but it was continuously delaying it until this May. Still, there is a question mark as to when district level committees to protect wetlands will be convened,” said Anbumani Ramadoss.
