An altercation between two men over a parked motorcycle ended in one cutting off the other’s ponytail with a knife.
The act has landed the attacker in prison after he was booked on charges, including voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
Semmenchery police said the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Sunday outside an eatery on the Grama Nedunchalai in Sholinganallur. Kabaleeshwaran (41) of Narayana Swamy Street in Sholinganallur, a yoga instructor and social worker, had gone to buy food when he spotted a parked motorcycle blocking the pathway.
“Kabaleeshwaran protested the way in which the vehicle was parked. The owner of the vehicle Ben Wilfred (29) of Sathyavani Muthu Nagar in Sholinganallur, who was drunk, got into an argument with the complainant. It soon snowballed into a fistfight in which Wilfred overpowered Kabaleeshwaran and chopped his long hair with a knife,” said an investigating officer.
After receiving treatment for his injuries, Kabaleeshwaran lodged a complaint with the Semmenchery police on Monday who then arrested Wilfred later in the evening.
Wilfred was booked for the assault, remanded to judicial custody and sent to Puzhal prison, sources added.
