Tamil Nadu’s O. Akash Lal (rating 1468) was crowned the champion in the Jagadeeswari Ammal FIDE rated chess tournament (rating below 1600) held here recently.

He topped the field in a tournament which saw participation from more than 350 players from across the country.

A cash prize of Rs 15,000 was handed out to Akash by N. S. Jagadeeswari, a chief guest as young as three years old.

D. Alexander was adjudged the best unrated player while V. Priyadarshini and I. Doraiswamy won the awards for best women’s player and best veteran respectively.
