Aircraft grounded

September 13, 2010 02:19 am | Updated 02:19 am IST - CHENNAI:

An Air India aircraft was grounded because of bird-hit and another private business jet was forced to go around due to bird concentration on the main runway at the Chennai Airport on Sunday.

According to airport sources, Air India New Delhi-Chennai flight (IC-439) Airbus A-321 was at the final phase of landing when a bird got ingested into the engine. The flight was grounded around 9 a.m.

In the afternoon, the pilot of a Singapore-bound aircraft noticed a dead bird on the main runway and informed the air traffic controllers. The problem was mainly due to non availability of experienced bird-scarers at the airport and lack of proper disposal of garbage close to the approach area.
