Admit 25% students under RTE Act: Stalin

April 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Friday urged the State government to hold talks with the representatives of private school association to ensure that 25 per cent seats were allotted to children belonging to weaker and disadvantaged groups in the neighbourhood and were given free and compulsory education.

He said the association had decided not to admit students under Right to Education (RTE) Act as the School Education Department has failed to reimburse the fees.

“While this step threatens to disrupt the socio-educational status of society, the failure of the government to reimburse fees for the last three years [as claimed by the association] is totally unacceptable,” he said.

Mr. Stalin also made an appeal to the managements of private schools not to take such a radical step that will affect the student community, just because the government had failed to reimburse the fees.
