Accused in murder case denied bail

July 30, 2010 02:20 am | Updated 02:20 am IST - CHENNAI:

A sessions court here on Thursday denied bail to Poovarasi (26) of Thiruvalam in Vellore District, who has been arrested in connection with a case relating to the murder of a three-year-old child.

The body of Aditya of Virugambakkam was found in a suitcase at Nagapattinam, on July 19.

In his order rejecting the woman's plea, Principal Sessions Judge (PSJ), P. Devadoss, said there was a prima facie case against her.

Counsel for the intervenor, the boy's father, Jayakumar, submitted that a tender child had been killed brutally. The woman should not be granted bail. Opposing the bail plea, the prosecution said it was a gruesome murder. Several incriminating circumstances supported by strong material had been collected. Investigation was at a nascent stage.

Mr. Devadoss said there were many incriminating circumstances backed by material and statements of witnesses. Petitioner had displayed her devilish mind in killing an innocent boy for having some motive against his father. Considering the prima facie case, nature of allegations, stage of investigation and modus operandi, he was not inclined to grant bail.
