An accused who was arrested on charges of house-break and was ordered to be remanded in judicial custody, gave the police the slip while being taken to the Puzhal Central Prison on Saturday night.
According to the police, R. Karthik, 27, of Erikkarai Street, Adambakkam, was arrested under Sections 294 (b), 324, 341, 384 and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and was being taken to jail.
He escaped on the pretext of attending nature’s call.
After being presented before a judicial magistrate, two police constables were taking the accused to the jail.
Under cover of darkness
The policemen were seated in the vehicle when the accused escaped under the cover of darkness, the sources said. Based on a complaint given by the policemen, the Puzhal police registered a case and launched a hunt for Karthik.
