Along with increasing its processing capacity, the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, popularly known by its brand name Aavin is also working to reach out to gen-next.

In a few days, it will open parlours inside two malls – Express Avenue and Phoenix Market City Mall.

Inside malls

“The parlours will be located inside the Big Bazaar in these malls. We have also started retailing ghee and butter through Reliance supermarkets. They have 46 outlets in the city,” explained a source, adding that talks are on with other supermarket chains as well.

“It is in supermarkets that youngsters shop these days. We want to connect with the working segment too. Due to our presence in the milk segment, we are already a household brand as far as milk goes,” the source further added.

More parlours

Aavin is currently in the process of increasing the number of its parlours. Construction is on at sites in Virugambakkam, Besant Nagar, Palavakkam Vepery, Thiruvanmiyur and Vannandurai and land has been identified for those at Mylapore and Teynampet.

“These will be upmarket parlours with space to sit comfortably and enjoy ice creams, milkshakes and snacks. One parlour on Arcot Road in Virugambakkam will have a drive-in facility,” the source explained.

V. Rajkumar, a resident of Tiruvottiyur, said if Aavin parlours would have ice cream scoops rather than just the usual cups and cones, his children would like that.

“They normally have ice cream when we go for shopping and if it is Aavin it is all the better,” he said.
