Padmini Ramesh believes that “clean surroundings release positive energy.” Driven by this belief, Padmini teamed up with a few other residents of Anna Nagar East and started a campaign ‘Swachh Soul Campaign’ to drive home the significance of a clean and green environment.
In October 2016, the team started educating the other residents of Anna Nagar about tree plantation and responsible disposal of garbage.
They also plan on working with civic authorities to spruce up the roads and improve the conditions of the pavements in the neighbourhood, says Padmini, who is a pranic healer.
Both civic authorities and residents have welcomed this campaign.
“So far, we have visited many homes between A Block and E Block in the locality. When we started interacting with the residents, they showed greater eagerness to learn more about the initiative and also work with us.
“We are simultaneously working with our Zonal officers to plant more trees in public spaces and on roads. We provide bamboos, which are natural oxygenators, to those who wish to do the same in their homes,” explains Padmini.
While implementation is a concern, the biggest challenge has to do with the lack of volunteers.
“While we can ask authorities to plant saplings on roads, we need volunteers to monitor their growth and also ensure they are watered regularly,” says Padmini.
