A joint commissioner will be an editor and police officers will be reporters.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the city, the Chennai police have decided to bring out a fortnightly publication containing information on all of their activities in all four police zones.
The newsletter, which will have an editor, two associate editors and several reporters, will have articles on the solving of sensational crimes, traffic diversions, measures taken to prevent crime, awareness initiatives, programmes of the police boys’ club as well as other programmes organised.
Achievements of police officers and teams will take centre stage.
A brainchild of city police commissioner S. George, the newsletter will be headed by R. Dhinakaran, joint commissioner of police (south) who will hold the post of editor and will be in charge of all the content going in.
A. Sivakumar, deputy commissioner, central crime branch and P. Saravanan, deputy commissioner, administration, will be the associate editors.
A team of police officers including a police photographer will work under the editor and his associates to bring out the newsletter, a source said.
The newsletter will be circulated among city and State police officers, police stations and will possibly be given to media persons covering crime.
Whether the newsletter will be available to the general public has not yet been decided, the source added.
