A police constable attached to MKB Nagar Police Station was placed under suspension for alleged nexus with a gang that stole bikes from Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital and other places in the city.

Joint Commissioner of Police Santhosh Kumar has issued the order placing Karthick under suspension.

According to police, his involvement in the crime came to light after the Flower Bazaar Police arrested four persons for stealing bikes recently.

Last Wednesday, P. Vinodh (21) of Thiruporur lodged a police complaint stating that his bike parked near Nainiappa Street was stolen.

He had gone inside a temple and on return, noticed a few persons taking away his bike and raised an alarm. A team from the Flower Bazaar Police Station nabbed four persons who were taking the bike away.

They were identified as Sahin Shah (28) of MKB Nagar, Mohammed Sherif (21) of Kallikuppam, his brother Mustak Sherif (20) and Azis Ullah (21) of Pulianthope.

High-end bikes

The police also recovered more high-end bikes from them.

Investigation revealed that Sahin Shah ran a shop selling high-end bikes near MKB Nagar Police Station allegedly in cahoots with constable Karthick. The gang lifted bikes that were parked at the government hospital and other places and moved them to MKB Nagar from where they were sold.

The suspended constable allegedly facilitated the sale of bikes even to police personnel.
