8.66 lakh students to write Class XII exams tomorrow

Around 8.66 lakh candidates from 6,903 schools in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will write the Class XII exams from Thursday, which will begin with the Language 1 paper.

Additionally, 40,686 private candidates will also be taking up the exams. The exam will commence at 10 a.m. and end at 1.15 p.m.

The Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) announced on Tuesday that this year, 278 new centres have been added.

The exams will thus be conducted at 2,794 centres across the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

In Chennai, 50,584 students will be taking up the exams in 156 centres.

As a part of the security arrangements, the question papers will be kept in 296 strong rooms across the State and will be guarded round-the-clock. While over 45,000 teachers will be supervising the exams, flying squads and standing squads consisting of teachers and officials from the School Education Department will be formed as well.

Control room

The DGE has further said that a control room will function from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the duration of the exams to help students and parents with any queries they might have regarding the exams.

The Plus Two exams will also be conducted in eight prisons across the State and arrangements have been made for 103 male candidates to take up the exam at a centre set up in Puzhal prison, said D. Vasundaradevi, Director of Government Examinations, in a statement.
