The State-wide pulse polio campaign held on Sunday received a very good response, health officials said. “Around 66.5 lakh children were administered the oral vaccine, taking the coverage to over 95 per cent,” said director of public health K. Kolandaisamy.

The campaign, under which 43,000 camps were held across the State, saw the participation of two lakh staff members, a press release said. 70 lakh children under the age of five were targeted.

“Over the next two days, our staff will go from door to door to administer the vaccine to any children who have not received it, in order to achieve the target. Drops will also be administered at bus stops, health centres and toll plazas,” Dr. Kolandaisamy said.

The second dose of vaccination will be administered on February 22.
