A five-year-old boy was crushed to death by the rear wheel of an MTC bus in Pozhichalur on Thursday morning.

The accident happened when Abdul Harif accompanied his mother, Thamina Begum, and brother, Abdul Rehman (8), to the latter’s school. The three of them, residents of Pozhichalur, were to take the M52 bus to drop Rehman to Pallavaram Maraimalai Government School.

The bus was very crowded and Thamina Begum attempted to board at the front entrance, carrying the five-year-old, just as the bus started. As she was boarding, a couple of people were disembarking and the child slipped and fell on the ground. Before he could move out of the way, he came under the rear wheel of the bus. A case has been registered against the driver and investigations are on.
