A five-year-old girl was sexually abused inside a car in Pallavaram on Saturday evening.
According to Pallavaram police, a 28-year-old homemaker lives in Pallavaram with her daughter, who has just completed kindergarten. The woman's husband, a software professional, is in the United States. On Saturday morning, she hired a call taxi and had gone to her parents' house in Mambalam.
After returning home in the evening, she decided to go to Island Grounds along with her daughter to attend the ‘kodai tiruvizha.' She asked the driver if she could extend the journey . When he agreed, she went to her house to pick up a few things. However, she left behind her daughter in the portico along with a relative, a five-year-old boy.
Police said the driver, Venkat Suman (25), took both the children inside his car and sexually abused the girl. The young boy opened the car door, ran outside and called for help. Suman pushed down the girl from the car and sped away.
Following a complaint lodged by the girl's mother, on Sunday morning, the police seized the car near the Chennai airport and arrested Suman. A case has been registered under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (rape).
