A 44-year-old cable television operator was found murdered at his house in Ambattur on Monday morning.
The police suspect the deceased was involved in a business deal and had owed a large sum as payment to iridium dealers believed to be from Coimbatore.
According to the police, Sridhar, the victim, was a resident of Banu Nagar in Ambattur. He was living with his wife Manonmani and their two daughters.
His wife told the police that a few days ago he had brought two men to the house and introduced them as his friends.
The men stayed in Sridhar’s house, occupying one room in the house during the nights.
When Manonmani confronted Sridhar, he told her they were from Coimbatore and had come to the city to see him.
On Monday morning, when Sridhar failed to come out of their room for a long time, Manonmani went to check on him.
Finding him lying in a pool of blood, she informed the police.
Officers from Ambattur police station reached the spot and investigated.
“Injuries were inflicted on him with a sharp weapon, like a knife. After the incident, the two men have been missing from the house,” said a senior police officer.
According to the police, Manonmani had informed them that Sridhar was into iridium dealing. “Sridhar was a cable operator in Thirumullaivoyal locality. But she said he was dealing with iridium too,” said a senior police officer.
The police are cross-checking Manonmani’s statement.
“We are checking if Sridhar owed any money to the iridium dealers. We have some leads and are investigating,” said the officer.
