The body of a 38-year-old woman was found in a highly decomposed state in her house in Ambattur on Friday evening. Ambattur police sources said Kavitha was living alone in a rented house on Manimekalai Street, Oragadam after she separated from her husband Sivakumar four years ago. The couple’s two daughters were living with Kavitha’s mother Yamuna nearby. Kavitha was not on good terms with her mother and rarely visited her.

Kavitha had not been seen for the past few days and on Friday evening, neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the house. Ambattur police broke open the main door to find the body. It is believed she died three days ago.

Following a preliminary probe, the body was sent to the Government Kilpauk hospital and handed over to her relatives on Saturday following post-mortem examination.

An investigation is on to ascertain if Kavitha was murdered or died of natural causes. Police are also looking into whether she poisoned herself.

Police are yet to determine the reason for the woman’s death
