Seven new announcements, including provision of electrical fittings in 34 parks to enable visitors to listen to radio programmes, were made on Thursday following the discussion on the Chennai Corporation budget for 2011-2012.
Mayor M.Subramanian said “The facilities will be provided in the parks with yoga platforms for helping the visitors listen to the programmes during their morning walk.”
Another announcement said that over 25,000 girl students of Chennai Middle Schools, in addition to those of Chennai High and Higher Secondary Schools, would get overcoats.
Chennai School students of class XII would start wearing tie at school and it would be distributed by the Corporation free of cost.
A total of 300 women belonging to SHGs would undergo training in fashion jewellery at a total cost of Rs.14.7 lakh.
The Corporation would impart technical training to 720 youths living below the povertyline at its community colleges.
Development works would be taken up at 13 dhobikanas. New tanks, drainage and power supply would be provided in the facilities, including those in Thiruvanmiyur, Saidapet, Chetpet, Mylapore, Royapettah and Aynavaram.
A dhobikana would be constructed in Kotturpuram. A community hall in Villivakkam has also been proposed.
Resolutions
The Corporation Council adopted 44 resolutions, including those pertaining to parking meters, master health check-up and free bus pass for Chennai School students attending coaching classes for IITJEE.
The new tests proposed in six diagnostic laboratories of the civic body include master health check-up, well woman check-up, diabetic profile, anaemia profile, renal profile, fever profile, antenatal profile, fertility profile, rheumatoid arthritis profile, TB profile, thyroid profile and geriatric check-up.
The rates in Chennai Corporation diagnostic laboratories are one-third of the market value in private hospitals.
The council also gave approval for installation of parking meters on nine roads.
A sum of Rs.3.4 crore was allocated for a diagnostic laboratory in Communicable Diseases Hospital. The work on a modern block in CDH would be completed in a month, said Mr.Subramanian.
