An 18-month-old girl drowned in a bucket of water in Ammaniamman Koil Street in New Washermanpet on Friday evening. A. Jayashree is the daughter of Kamakshi and Anuraj, who is employed with a private company.

On Friday evening, Kamakshi was working in the kitchen and Anuraj was at work. The child, who was playing in the hall, suddenly went missing.  When Kamakshi and neighbours started searching for the child, they found her in a bucket of water in the bathroom.

They rushed her to a private hospital where she was declared brought dead. The body was taken to Stanley Hospital for post-mortem. The New Washermanpet police have registered a case.

Police suspect that the child would have peeped into the bucket and fallen into the water.
