The Chennai International Film Festival, which has made a name for itself in the last twelve years, will feature 183 films from 50 countries, including a tribute to the legendary filmmaker K. Balachander and renowned actor Manorama, over eight days starting from December 10.

Stepping into its thirteenth year, the festival will provide an opportunity for movie buffs in the city to catch up with the best of cinema made around the world in 2015. The festival will unfold in seven screens across the city —Inox (Chennai Citi Center), Casino theatre, RKV Studio (Vadapalani), Russian Centre for Science and Culture (Off Cathedral Road) and Woodlands theatre (Royapettah).

“We have brought in award-winning movies of 2015 from major film festivals. We have managed to get 10 movies that have won top awards at the Berlin film festival and another six films that have won similar awards at the Cannes. Apart from that, we have also managed to source best films that were selected under various categories in these festivals,” says Thangaraj, festival director, of the festival and general secretary of Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation. There will be red-carpet events, in which best films will be screened at Inox.

“We expect a lot of celebrity presence. Apart from these, we are also planning to include discussions on hot topics in the world of cinema. We will confirm everything soon,” says Thangaraj.

At the end of the festival, a jury will select the Best Tamil film from 12 movies.
