16-year-old youth commits suicide in Chengalpattu

A 16-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide near a welfare home in Chengalpattu on Monday.

Police said that Anbu Raj of Irumbedu village was a resident of a private home for children and studying in class X. He had left the home, located at Meleripakkam, on Monday and was found hanging from a tree near the home on Tuesday morning.

The District Child Welfare Committee member, J.Ahmed visited the hospital and was reportedly prevented by a group of people from meeting the victim’s relatives.

Mr. Ahmed lodged a police complaint and subsequently met the relatives with police protection. He also visited the home where Anbu Raj had been staying. Officials said the home had not received government permission.
