The Crime Branch CID on Thursday arrested K. Christopher Kumar (40) of Kolathur, who was wanted in the case of trafficking of children from Manipur.

The accused allegedly molested a minor girl lodged in a home and absconded. A special team formed to investigate the case apprehended Christopher here, sources said. He was produced in an Alandur court and remanded to judicial custody.

The arrest pertains to a case in which police rescued many Manipuri children who were lodged in two houses in Chennai early this year. When the children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, they said that they were subjected to sexual abuse and harassment.

Additional Director General of Police (CBCID) Archana Ramasundaram formed a special team, led by Superintendent of Police S. Mallikha to investigate the case. It came to light during investigation that S. Rakesh (25) and J. Hero Samom alias Herojit Samom (25) had procured 19 children from Manipur on the promise that they would be give education in Chennai. The accused took Rs.10,000 each from the parents of the victims.

The children were admitted in a home in Mogappair East in June 2009 and not admitted to any school. Police arrested Rakesh, Herojit, Bangkim Singh and Longjam Singh of Manipur, Immanuel and Albert Karunakaran in this case, the sources added.
