The deadline for enrolment of names on the voters list has been extended by one week in the city. The earlier deadline expired on Friday. The new deadline will be December 6.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha said that 68 per cent of eligible voters had registered in the voters list so far. The enrolment in the city so far has been marginally lower compared with the rest of the State and stands at 65 per cent. In the city, Shivajinagar registered the highest enrolment at 71 per cent and the upmarket BTM Layout has only 57.25 per cent.
Buntwal constituency in Dakshina Kannada tops the enrolment of voters with 87 per cent of the population entering the voters list and Kudachi of Belgaum has the lowest enrolment at 58 per cent, he said.
BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan said he had directed the officers to enhance the enrolment of names on voters list in areas like Bommanahalli, Govindaraj Nagar and in few other areas of Bangalore South.
Presently 20 mobile vans and one autorickshaw in each ward had been deployed to ensure enrolment of more people by distributing applications. Mr. Lakshminarayana said that more mobile vehicles would be deployed.
