Yet again an autorickshaw driver has exhibited extraordinary honesty by returning the mobile phone left behind by a foreign tourist in his vehicle. “I am so happy to encounter so many honest people in this country,” is what an Australian tourist has said after he got back his lost phone.
Chris Sage from Melbourne, who was on a holiday in the city, took an autorickshaw from ISRO Layout to Jayanagar III Block on July 11. Murthi B., the driver of the autorickshaw, realised that the passenger had dropped his mobile phone in the vehicle.
“I found that the Australian tourist had dropped his mobile phone in my vehicle on (July 11) Saturday evening. The SIM card was locked. So, I inserted my SIM in the mobile and called a friend of Chris Sage, to whom he had sent an SMS earlier. This friend in Australia alerted Chris Sage who contacted me and collected his mobile phone from me on July 17,” Mr. Murthi explained.
Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Chris Sage said that he was in Puducherry when his friend from Australia called him and gave the contact number of Mr. Murthi. “I contacted Mr. Murthi, and returned to the city to collect my mobile phone. I am so grateful to Mr. Murthi and am happy to encounter so many honest people in this country,” Mr. Chris Sage said.
According to the good samaritan, this is the 12th passenger who had forgotten his/her mobile phone in his autorickshaw, and he has returned all of them to their rightful owners.
