The Hanumanth Nagar police have picked up a nephew of former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa for allegedly duping a city-based industrialist of Rs 50 lakh after promising to get denotified land.

Though the complaint was filed three years ago, the police failed to act against the accused Rajesh. The complainant, Krishnappa, then approached the High Court, which directed the police to take action.

The police picked up Rajesh from his residence in Mysuru.

According to the police, Rajesh had in 2011 taken Rs 40 lakh in cash and a car worth Rs 10 lakh from Krishnappa, a businessman and resident of Hanumantha Nagar, promising to get him 20 guntas of land in Mysuru through his uncle who was then the Chief Minister. But Rajesh failed to keep his promise, said a police source.

A senior police officer said, “We have detained Rajesh and seized the car.”
